The West Links at North Berwick is one of the oldest courses in the world, with the club founded in 1832, and home of the original Redan, the par-3 15th copied by architects everywhere. The beach is in play on six holes, and the course plays out along the Firth of Forth with the Bass Rock in view. The Perry Bros play it on October 21, 2026, day 2 of our Scotland trip.

Golf has been played on these links since the early 1600s, and the club was founded in 1832. The course grew from 6 holes to a full 18 in 1877 and reached roughly its present shape after Ben Sayers' changes in 1932.
The 15th, Redan, is the original version of one of the most copied holes in golf: a par 3 to a big green that falls away from right to left, with a hidden gully front right. C.B. Macdonald called it the finest one-shot hole in the world. The 13th, Pit, plays over an old stone wall to a sunken green.
